Social Security October 2026 Payment Schedule: SSI, SSDI & Retirement Dates
Social Security October 2026 Payment Schedule: Full Dates
The Social Security October 2026 payment schedule includes several important dates—and one unusual payment at the end of the month.
Most Social Security retirement, survivor and SSDI beneficiaries will receive their October payments on one of three Wednesdays:
October 14, October 21 or October 28.
SSI recipients are scheduled to receive their regular October payment on:
Thursday, October 1.
Some Social Security beneficiaries who are normally paid on the third day of the month will receive their October payment one day early on Friday, October 2, because October 3 falls on a Saturday.
There is also another important date:
Friday, October 30.
SSI beneficiaries are scheduled to receive a payment on October 30 because November 1 falls on a Sunday.
That October 30 deposit is not a bonus or extra SSI benefit. It is the regular November SSI payment arriving early.
Here is everything beneficiaries need to know.

Who Gets Social Security on October 14?
For most beneficiaries who applied for Social Security after April 30, 1997, payment dates are based on the birthday of the worker whose earnings record the benefit is based on.
If that birthday falls from the:
1st through the 10th
the October payment is generally scheduled for:
Wednesday, October 14, 2026.
This can include qualifying recipients of:
- retirement benefits;
- SSDI;
- survivor benefits;
- spousal benefits;
- and certain dependent benefits.
Who Gets Paid on October 21?
Beneficiaries in the second birthday group are scheduled for:
Wednesday, October 21, 2026.
This group generally includes people whose relevant birthday falls from:
the 11th through the 20th.
For example, birthdays on the 11th, 15th or 20th generally fall into this payment cycle when the standard post-April 1997 rules apply.
Who Gets Social Security on October 28?
The final regular birthday-based Social Security payment in October is scheduled for:
Wednesday, October 28, 2026.
This payment generally applies when the relevant birthday falls from:
the 21st through the 31st.
That includes birthdays such as:
- 21st;
- 24th;
- 27th;
- 30th;
- and 31st.

Why Is the October 3 Social Security Payment Coming on October 2?
Some Social Security beneficiaries normally receive benefits on the third day of each month.
However:
October 3, 2026 is a Saturday.
SSA rules generally move a payment to the preceding business day when the normal payment date falls on a weekend or federal holiday.
Therefore, qualifying beneficiaries in the third-of-the-month group are scheduled to receive their October payment on:
Friday, October 2, 2026.
This group generally includes certain people who began receiving Social Security before May 1997 and some beneficiaries who receive both Social Security and SSI.
The SSA explains the regular payment-date rules here:
When Is the October SSI Payment?
SSI stands for Supplemental Security Income.
The normal federal SSI payment date is the first day of the month unless the first falls on a weekend or federal holiday.
October 1, 2026 is a Thursday.
Therefore, the regular October SSI payment remains scheduled for:
Thursday, October 1.
There is no weekend adjustment needed for the October payment.
Why Is There Another SSI Payment on October 30?
This is one of the most important details in the October calendar.
November 1, 2026 falls on a:
Sunday.
SSI normally arrives on the first day of the month.
When the first falls on a weekend, SSA generally sends the payment on the previous eligible business day.
That means the payment normally associated with November 1 is scheduled for:
Friday, October 30, 2026.
As a result, many SSI recipients will see two SSI deposits during the calendar month of October:
October 1
and
October 30.
But there is an important catch.
Is the October 30 SSI Payment a Bonus Check?
No.
The October 30 payment is not a bonus.
It is not a stimulus payment.
It is not an extra month of SSI.
It is simply November’s SSI payment being deposited early because November 1 falls on a Sunday.
That means eligible SSI beneficiaries may see:
October benefit → October 1
November benefit → October 30
There will therefore generally be no regular SSI payment on November 1, because that benefit has already been paid early.
Beneficiaries should budget accordingly.
SSI vs SSDI Payment Dates in October
SSI and SSDI are different programs.
SSI
Supplemental Security Income is needs-based and generally follows the first-of-the-month payment schedule.
October dates:
October 1
and the early November payment on:
October 30.
SSDI
Social Security Disability Insurance generally follows Social Security’s birthday schedule for beneficiaries covered by the standard payment cycle.
| Birthday | October SSDI Date |
|---|---|
| 1st–10th | October 14 |
| 11th–20th | October 21 |
| 21st–31st | October 28 |
Some SSDI beneficiaries fall under different payment rules and may receive benefits on October 2.
What If You Receive Both SSI and Social Security?
People receiving both programs typically follow a different schedule from the three birthday-based Wednesday groups.
Under SSA rules, qualifying concurrent beneficiaries generally receive:
SSI around the first of the month
and:
Social Security around the third of the month.
For October 2026, that means:
SSI → October 1
Social Security → October 2
The Social Security payment moves from October 3 to October 2 because the 3rd is a Saturday.
What If Your Benefit Is Based on Someone Else’s Work Record?
This is an important point for spouses and survivors.
The payment group is generally determined by the birthday of the worker whose Social Security record your benefit is based on.
For example, suppose your birthday is the 8th.
But you receive survivor benefits based on a spouse whose birthday was the 25th.
The worker’s birthday may place the payment into the fourth-Wednesday group:
October 28.
Your personal SSA notice and account should always be used to confirm your actual payment date.
Will Social Security Payments Increase in October?
There is no new annual COLA beginning specifically in October.
Social Security benefits already include the 2026 cost-of-living adjustment.
The next COLA will apply to 2027 benefits after the official adjustment is determined from third-quarter inflation data.
Current forecasts are already drawing significant interest.
For estimates and benefit calculations, read our:
Social Security COLA 2027 calculator
If that scheduled article uses a different final URL when you publish it, update this internal link before scheduling.
When Will the 2027 COLA Be Announced?
The 2027 Social Security COLA cannot be finalized until September CPI-W data becomes available.
The Social Security Administration uses third-quarter inflation data—July, August and September—to calculate the adjustment.
This makes October particularly important for beneficiaries because the official 2027 percentage should become known after September inflation data is released.

2027 Social Security benefit changes guide
What Time Does Social Security Deposit?
The SSA provides an official payment date, but there is no single deposit time that applies to every bank.
A beneficiary may see funds at different times depending on:
- bank processing;
- credit union policies;
- direct-deposit services;
- prepaid benefit cards;
- and individual account processing.
Some financial institutions also advertise early direct deposit.
That does not change the official SSA scheduled date.
Can Social Security Arrive Early?
Some banks may make government direct deposits available before the official payment date.
However, early deposit is a feature of the financial institution rather than a guaranteed SSA benefit.
Beneficiaries should therefore plan around the official payment schedule, not an assumed early deposit.
What If Your October Social Security Payment Is Missing?
First, confirm that you are checking the correct payment date.
Then verify:
- your benefit type;
- the relevant birthday;
- whether you receive SSI;
- whether you began receiving Social Security before May 1997;
- and whether your bank information is current.
You can review available information through:
The official SSA calendar advises beneficiaries who do not receive a scheduled payment to allow three additional mailing days before contacting Social Security.

Bottom Line
The Social Security October 2026 payment schedule contains an unusual combination of regular and early payments.
The important dates are:
October 1 — SSI
October 2 — qualifying third-of-the-month Social Security payments
October 14 — birthdays 1st–10th
October 21 — birthdays 11th–20th
October 28 — birthdays 21st–31st
October 30 — November SSI payment arrives early
The biggest source of confusion will likely be the October 30 deposit.
Beneficiaries may receive two SSI deposits during October, but the second one is not extra money.
It is November’s benefit being paid early because November 1 falls on a Sunday.
