The Social Security Administration has already published its official 2027 payment calendar, which means retirees, SSDI beneficiaries and SSI recipients can plan their payment dates for the entire year.
For most people who began receiving Social Security after April 1997, the payment day depends on the birth date of the person whose work record the benefit is paid on.

How Your Birthday Determines Your Payment Date
If you filed for Social Security benefits on or after May 1, 1997 and do not fall into one of SSA’s special payment categories, your birthday generally determines the Wednesday on which your payment arrives.
If your birthday is from the 1st through the 10th, payment is generally made on the second Wednesday of the month.
If your birthday is from the 11th through the 20th, payment is generally made on the third Wednesday.
If your birthday is from the 21st through the 31st, payment is generally made on the fourth Wednesday.
The relevant birthday is normally the birthday of the worker whose earnings record the benefit is based on.

For the regular birthday-based payment cycle:

The payment normally scheduled for the third of January is affected because January 3, 2027 falls on a Sunday. SSA’s calendar moves that payment to the preceding eligible business day, which falls in late December 2026.
January SSI is also paid before January begins because January 1 is a federal holiday.

There is no regular SSI payment dated in May because the May SSI benefit is paid early on April 30.

SSA’s calendar also shows another SSI payment on December 30, 2027. That is the January 2028 SSI payment arriving early because January 1, 2028 falls on a Saturday and the New Year’s holiday affects the normal payment timing.
Receiving two SSI deposits during December does not mean beneficiaries receive an extra month of benefits. One payment belongs to December and the other is the January payment arriving early.

Why Some People Receive Social Security on the 3rd
The Wednesday birthday schedule does not apply to everyone.
SSA says people may receive Social Security on the third day of the month if they were receiving or applied for benefits before May 1997 or if they receive both Social Security and SSI.
Other special payment situations can also result in a third-of-the-month schedule.
If the third falls on a weekend or federal holiday, SSA moves the payment to the preceding business day.

Does SSDI Follow the Same Payment Schedule?
Social Security Disability Insurance generally follows the Social Security payment cycle rather than the SSI schedule.
For many SSDI beneficiaries who filed after April 1997, the date is determined by the relevant birthday and falls on the second, third or fourth Wednesday.
People who also receive SSI or fall into one of SSA’s special categories can have a different payment date.

Why Does Social Security Sometimes Pay Early?
SSA adjusts payment timing when a scheduled date falls on a weekend or federal holiday.
For SSI, the payment is generally moved to the first preceding day that is not a Saturday, Sunday or federal holiday.
That is why several 2027 payments occur in the prior month.
For example, the May SSI payment is dated April 30, and the August SSI payment is dated July 30.
Why Are There Two SSI Payments in Some Months?
A month can contain two SSI deposits when the first day of the following month falls on a weekend or holiday.
The second deposit is not an extra benefit.
It is simply the next month’s payment arriving early.
In 2027, this happens in months such as April, July and December because payments for May, August and January 2028 are moved forward.
Why Is There No SSI Deposit in Some Months?
The reverse is also true.
If the following month’s SSI payment was issued during the prior month, there can be no SSI deposit dated during the new month itself.
For example, the August 2027 SSI payment arrives on July 30.
Therefore, someone looking only at August bank deposits may wonder why there is no new SSI deposit during August.
The benefit was already paid early.
What If Your Social Security Payment Does Not Arrive?
SSA’s official calendar says that if you do not receive a payment on the expected date, you should allow:
three additional mailing days
before contacting Social Security.
People using direct deposit may normally see the payment on the scheduled date, although individual banking practices can affect when funds become visible.
If a payment remains missing after the appropriate waiting period, contact SSA or review your benefit information through your my Social Security account.
Can You Change Your Social Security Payment Date?
For most people on the birthday-based cycle, SSA assigns the payment date according to the birth date associated with the benefit record.
SSA generally does not allow beneficiaries simply to choose whichever Wednesday they prefer.
